This is an English version of Maulānā Sayyid Abul A‘lā Maudūdi’s Urdu translation of the Holy Qur’ān, first published in one volume from Lahore in July 1976. This work, as the Maulāna wrote in the Preface, was in fact intended for those readers who only wanted to read the translation of the Qur’ān and could not spare the time to study the detailed commentary in the Tafhīm-ul-Qur’ān. However, he added brief explanatory notes, wherever necessary, to make the translation more useful and beneficial.

About the Author
Syed Abul Ala Maudoodi (1903-1979) was a leading Muslim intellectual and a chief architect of the Islamic revival in the twentieth century. In 1941 he founded Jama'at-i-Islami, a political party in Pakistan, which he led until 1972. He authored more than a hundred works on Islam, both popular and scholarly, and his writings have been translated into some forty languages.
