Muhammad Iqbal (d. 1938), thinker and philosopher – poet of Indo-Pakistan sub-continent, was one of the key architects of contemporary Islam. Through the medium of his thoughtful writing and soul-transforming poetry, both Urdu and Persian, he infused a new spirit in the Muslims, not only of India and Pakistan but also Iran, Afghanistan, Central Asia and the Middle East. He challenged the western concept of nationalism and expounded the concept of Islamic nations, on which the idea of Pakistan is based. Abdur Rashid Siddiqui (d. 2019) gained an honours degree in Economics and Politics as well as a Law degree from the University of Bombay. He completed his postgraduate study in Librarianship in London. He worked as an Information Librarian at the University of Leicester from 1966 until his retirement in 1997. His publications include, Lift up your Hearts!, Man and Destiny: Some Reflections on Iqbal’s Concept of Khudi and the Perfect Man, Living in Allah’s Presence: Aspects of Islamic Spirituality and Treasures of the Qur’an: Surah al-Fatihah to Surah al-Ma’idah. He also edited a collection of essays entitled Tazkiyah: Path to Self-Development. This Treasury book is the last project he worked on before his return to his Creator.

Living in Allah’s Presence: Aspects of Islamic Spirituality introduces the natural human characteristics (fiṯrah) that are universally considered to be praiseworthy. THE QUR’AN AND SUNNAH are the two primary sources of Muslim faith, life, law and morality. The Qur’an is for Muslims the foundation of their faith and the Sunnah is the framework of their morality. Dr. Taha Jabir Al-Alwaniwas born in Iraq in 1935. He was a graduate of Al-Azhar University, Cairo. The world-renowned Islamic scholar was an expert in Islamic legal theory, jurisprudence, the principles of jurisprudence, Qur’anic sciences, and general Islamic thought. He was president of the Graduate School of Islamic and Social Sciences (GSISS), USA; president of the Fiqh Council of North America; member of the OIC Islamic Fiqh Academy; and president of the International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT), USA. The prolific writer, who passed away on March 4, 2016, has to his credit many works including: Source Methodology in Islamic Jurisprudence; Towards a Fiqh for Minorities; The Ethics of Disagreement in Islam; Ijtihad; and The Qur’an and the Sunnah: The Time-Space Factor.
